I’ve participated in three workshops on Conflic management organised by Ryan and Aleksandra and it was a very helpful experience. In our day to day professional tasks we have to deal with a lot of meetings, revisions, feedbacking, assessments… and so forth. These tasks require a group of skills, including being able to avoid as many conflicts and problems as we can. So in this workshop, we had the chance to walk through different strategies and techniques of managing conflicts from the perspective of prevention of problems on the on hand, and also of solution of problems on the other. So very interesting integrative perspective. Hope to have the chance to repeat the experience and keep working on my interpersonal effectiveness.

Ryan’s event on well-being in the PhD was a total success on our center. He helped us identify some of the problems associated with our doctoral studies with very clear hands-on methodologies. Additionally, he encouraged us to reflect on this difficulties, in groups and individually, to come up with some solutions to tackle them. Overall, it was a pleasure to work with someone with this knowledge and professionality!
After a entering the academic world and getting to know the power dianmics that lead to unhealthy work relationships which very profoundly stablished, as predoctoral researcher, you start to loose passion and motivation, and many times even experiencing anxiety. Some of the factors that contribute to this effect are very well known though very difficult to change, and even more from a powerless position, as it is being a predoctoral student. In this sense Mental well-being program for scientists based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy has helped me to become aware of my individual power to take action on how to approach conflicts and keep resilient applying tools that help relieve the emotional burden that comes with this work environment.
